Special characters such as < or > must be written as &lt; and &gt;.  Easy
conversion of these characters can be done when importing text from non
HTML files.

             ... convert char to special entity in marked region
`[prefix] :'
             ... convert special entity to original char in marked region
             (reverse of [prefix] ;)
